INSTRUMENT SERVICE

Most brass players will never pay to get their instruments serviced, and very few, will never need to. A clean and efficient instrument will nearly* always perform better then a dirty one. So what needs to be done in a workshop that can’t be done at home?

Ultra-Sonic Cleaning
The instrument is completely dismantled, and all parts are placed in an ultra-sonic de-scaling solution. While the owner can remove most organic and grease based deposits, this process will gently remove other materials, stuck to the inside walls of the instrument. Even the most skeptical of players have been amazed at the results. One recent client commented “It was like taking my trombone to the hygienist”. Ultra-sonic cleaning is available for all trumpets, cornets, trombones and french horns.

Valve Alignments
All valves are designed to divert air around the instrument, without disrupting the airflow. While this is actually impossible to achieve, a misaligned valve will seriously effect the efficiency of the instrument. Valve alignments are available for all piston and rotary valves, and often use a computer-linked borescope to visually inspect all the airways before and after replacing felts or neoprenes.

There are many other service procedures that can be carried out. These fall under the category of repairs, and can usually be bundled into a single visit.

* I say nearly, as some clients actually rely on the dirt to produce a certain tone, usually on flugels
