Will Spencer studied the trumpet in London with Denis Egan, Paul Cosh and Crispian Steele-Perkins, specializing in Baroque and Piccolo trumpets. Will has always had an interest in the performance and manufacture of trumpets and after 25 years of performing and teaching, Will now runs a busy trumpet repair and custom shop.

Based in the picturesque village of Elstead, Surrey, Will currently builds his own range of Bb and C trumpets as well as running a busy brass repair and trumpet reconfiguration consultancy. He has lectured at the Royal Academy, and Trinity Colleges of Music and built all the trumpets for the British Royal Air Force bands.

Will keeps the largest selection of custom leadpipes and tuning slides in the UK and is a distributor for MK products.  M/K slides and leadpipes are designed mainly for Bach and Yamaha Bb and C trumpets and can enhance the tone, efficiency and tuning of an instrument. During a consultation a customer can reconfigure an instrument and have it rebuilt within a single visit. Examples of Will's work can now be found in most professional British orchestras and in some cases, whole trumpet sections use his instruments.

In 2011 Spencer Trumpets were displayed at the Frankfurt Musikmesse, and ITG Minneapolis, where they were extremely well received. As a result, they have been reviewed in the German music magazine, “Sonic”. Click here to read the article.

In 2004 Will developed Snake Oil; a unique valve oil which contains PTFE. There is now a range of four products. Snake Oil Classic, Snake Oil Trigger & Rotor Oil and lastly, Snott, which was developed for lever linkages and short mobile slides such as those found on high-pitched trumpets. In 2007, the Classic Snake Oil was re-branded and is now sold through Denis Wick Products LTD. As with all Denis Wick products, this oil is now available in music shops around the globe.

Denis Wick has also embraced Will's "tone collars", which, like heavy valve caps, increase the mass of the valve block. They fit most makes of trumpet and cornet and are rapidly gaining popularity.

Later this year, Denis Wick will be releasing a new range of trumpet mouthpieces, which Will has designed, based on the US/Bach sizes. These have incorporated dimensions  from some of finest mouthpieces of today as well as vintage models and have so far, been extremely well received.
